Dhaka, Jan 20, Government employees in Bangladesh may soon receive a higher Baishakhi allowance, as the 9th National Pay Commission is set to finalise its long-awaited report. Officials familiar with the process indicate that the commission has reviewed several proposals aimed at improving festive benefits for public servants.

The Baishakhi allowance, paid during the Bengali New Year, stands at a modest percentage of basic pay. The proposed revision could bring a significant increase, reflecting rising living costs and employee demands.

What the Pay Commission Is Considering

Sources say the commission has focused on strengthening take-home income without creating long-term fiscal pressure. Alongside the Baishakhi allowance, the report also examines salary structures, allowances, and other benefits under the upcoming pay scale.

If approved, the revised allowance would offer much-needed financial support during Pahela Baishakh for lower- and mid-level government employees.

Government Approval Still Pending

While the commission is expected to submit its recommendations soon, the final decision rests with the government. Any increase will require approval from the finance authorities, followed by an official notification outlining implementation details.

Officials suggest that the government is keen to balance employee welfare with budgetary discipline. They want to make the allowance hike a carefully considered move rather than an automatic approval.

Impact on Public Sector Employees

If implemented, the revised Baishakhi allowance would boost morale among government workers and align festive benefits more with current economic realities. Employees across ministries are now watching for the final announcement.
