The Bengali actress and ex-MP Mimi Chakraborty recently became involved in a harassment scandal, which produced widespread media coverage throughout West Bengal and its bordering region of Bangladesh. The incident, which supposedly occurred during an artistic event, has created critical concerns about how safe artists remain during events and the ethical responsibilities and accountability that event managers must uphold.
What Allegedly Happened at the Bongaon Event
Mimi Chakraborty reported that the event occurred on January 25 2026, during her stage performance in Nayagopalganj, Bongaon. She alleged that the event organiser interrupted her mid-performance, asked her to leave the stage abruptly, and made derogatory remarks. The actress suggested the behaviour may have followed her refusal to attend the organiser’s home as a guest.
Who Was Arrested by the police?
West Bengal Police arrested three people on January 29 2026, for their suspected involvement in the case. The main accused is event organiser Tanay (or Tanmay) Shastri, along with two of his associates. The police arrested the suspects after they confronted Shastri at his home, where an alleged struggle occurred during police efforts to execute their responsibilities.
Charges and Legal Process Ahead
The Bongaon Police Station received Mimi Chakraborty’s email complaint,t which led to the arrests. The accused now faces charges related to harassment and public humiliation. The investigators will collect witness testimonies, analyse any available event recordings, and submit their findings to the court. The court will schedule both bail hearings and upcoming legal proceedings.
Mimi Chakraborty’s Response So Far
The arrests remain unaddressed by Chakraborty because she has not spoken about them to the public at any time from her first statement until the present. She has been busy promoting her upcoming film Bhanupriya Bhuter Hotel. The event organisers reported that the situation had been exaggerated because they needed to wait for program events to start according to their planned schedule.
