This shrine, which is about 8–10 km from Akkelpur town and 15–20 km from Joypurhat Sadar, has terracotta decorations and attracts both religious and history buffs, especially during its lively annual mela. Getting there is easy with reliable public transport. Here’s a step-by-step guide to make your trip go smoothly.

By Road (Most Popular): From Dhaka or Major Cities

You can take a bus or minibus from Dhaka’s Sayedabad or Gabtoli terminals (for example, Shyamoli Paribahan or Hanif Enterprise; it takes 4–5 hours and costs BDT 500–800). Get off at Joypurhat town and then take a local bus to Akkelpur (30–45 minutes, BDT 50–100). To get to Gopinathpur Bazar from Akkelpur, take a rickshaw or CNG auto (7–10 minutes, BDT 100–200; it’s only 100–200 meters off the main road).

Take the Silk City Express train from Dhaka to Joypurhat Railway Station. It takes 5 to 6 hours. After that, take the bus to Akkelpur and Gopinathpur.

Take a bus to Joypurhat (1.5 hours, BDT 200–300), and then do what you did before.

From Joypurhat or Akkelpur: Direct buses or minibuses from Joypurhat Town to Akkelpur drop you off at Gopinathpur Bazar (45 minutes, BDT 50–80). People in the area call the temple “Gopinath Mondir.” It is next to the main road or a short lane.

Important Advice for a Safe and Easy Visit

To stay safe, travel during the day (7 AM to 4 PM). Use apps like Google Maps or Pathao to find your way, and only use licensed operators. Winter (November to February) is a great time to visit the temple because the weather is cool and dry.

When you get there, dress modestly (cover your shoulders and knees), take off your shoes, and turn off your phone. Bring cash, snacks, and water with you (there are no ATMs nearby). If you can, women travellers should go in groups. The active priesthood welcomes respectful visitors. Join in on prayers to get the real feel.

This old site gives spiritual peace to those who are willing to wait and enjoy the beauty of the countryside. Plan ahead, travel smart, and dive in safely.
