What started as a normal classroom interaction at Willes Little Flower School is now one of the most talked-about controversies in Dhaka. The incident involving the class 10 student and the physics teacher took place on April 16. What could have been a minor disciplinary issue quickly escalated into a larger confrontation involving parents, students and even legal scrutiny.
What happened in the classroom
Reports said the incident began when a student asked the physics teacher to solve a Bangla question. The teacher reportedly told him to go to the Bengali teacher instead. But when the student asked again, the exchange was said to have become tense. The boy was rude to the teacher, the teacher slapped the boy, and a few students also confirmed this. The teacher later said he had called the student’s parents to discuss the matter and denied allegations that the punishment was related to private coaching classes.
The Situation Escalates
But the problem didn’t stay in the classroom. The teacher was later summoned to the guardian’s house, where claims of humiliation were reportedly made, the reports said. This claim made students angry, and protests broke out both within and outside the school campus. Things turned bad; a memorandum was allegedly sent to higher authorities, and the matter soon picked up pace on social media.

Guardian’s Version Adds Another Layer
The family of the student told a different tale. The general diary lodged at Ramna police station stated that the student was beaten up for not attending the teacher’s private coaching classes. The complaint also cites threats being circulated on social media. The police confirmed a complaint was made, but have not released any details of the findings.
Not one incident
The complexity of this case is that it is not just one clear-cut event. Instead, it is a series of conflicting claims. Student behaviour, teacher discipline , guardian allegations , public reaction . At its core, it’s still a classroom struggle. But the bigger debate raises bigger questions: where do you draw the line on discipline, how should disputes between teachers and guardians be handled, and how quickly can such incidents spiral in the age of social media? As the investigation continues, the incident is a reminder of how sensitive school environments can be — and how quickly a local issue can turn into a citywide conversation.
