2027 Bangladesh Holiday List Approved

The government has planned next year’s calendar. The cabinet approved the 2027 Bangladesh holiday list at its Monday meeting (November 2) at the Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani shared the details afterwards. There are 29 days of leave in total, but fewer actual extra days off.

The calendar applies to government and semi-government offices and to statutory, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies across the country. If you work in the private sector, check your company’s notice.

How the 29 Days of Leave Break Down

  • 15 general holidays: national days and major religious festivals of different communities.
  • 14 executive-order holidays: Bengali New Year and other major religious festivals, including the extra days around Eid.

Why Only 22 Days Are Off-Weekend

Bangladesh observes Friday and Saturday as weekly holidays. Seven of the 29 holidays fall on those days: three Fridays and four Saturdays, bdnews24 reported. That leaves 22 effective holidays, the days that actually add time off.

Optional Leave

Government employees can take up to three optional holidays a year for their own religious festivals. Employees from small ethnic communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and elsewhere get two optional days for Boisabi or similar festivals.

Best Long Weekends to Plan Around

  • Eid-ul-Azha (May 15–22): Friday and Saturday, then Monday to Thursday, then Friday and Saturday again. That is up to eight days in a row.
  • Eid-ul-Fitr (Mar 10–13): Wednesday to Saturday, four days off in a row.
  • Mar 5–7: Friday and Saturday plus Shab-e-Qadr on Sunday make a three-day break.
  • Aug 5 and Dec 16: Both fall on a Thursday, so with Friday and Saturday you get three days.

Religious dates depend on moon sighting, so wait for the final gazette before booking anything.

Quick Planning Tips

  • Add the approved dates to your phone calendar.
  • Book bus, train and launch tickets early for Eid.
  • Apply for extra leave early.
  • Withdraw cash before the holidays, as banks will be closed.
