The persistent issue of the capital city Dhaka is air pollution which multiplies from several interlinked problems. The major cause of the air pollution are rampant construction activities which releases dust into the air making it more unhealthy, the hazardous smoke from the brick kilns, and traffic congestion & the emission of CO2 from the poorly maintained vehicles.
Dhaka topped the list of world’s most polluted cities based on the report od today [23 May 2025] and the AQI (Air Quality Index) score of 157. This clearly states that the air breathed in the capital city is unsafe and unhealthy. Further, it might also lead further physical ailments to the vulnerable groups like children, elderly people and individuals with respiratory conditions.
This is measured based on levels of pollutants emitted which includes PM10, PM2.5, NO2, CO, SO2. In general the level of air pollution will be recorded in a high range during the winter season that is due to its weather condition. But today’s report overtly signifies that the situation is getting worse even during the summer. Experts are raising their concerns for a better installment of solution to this fatal issue.
