On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump took a dig at India’s purchases of Russian oil, threatening to substantially increase the tariffs on Indian imports in the next 24 hours. India fought back, nonetheless.

Later on, during a press conference originally called to discuss the 2028 Olympics, Trump claimed he had no information about the US’s purchase of uranium and fertilizers from Russia. “I need to check it out,” he mentioned.

Russian troops marched into Ukraine back in February 2022. The US still imports billions of dollars of Russian energy and commodities, including enriched Uranium.

Nikki Haley cautions: China has got a 90-day tariff pause

Since January 2022, it has been reported that the US has imported $24.51 billion of Russian goods. In 2024 alone, the US imported $1.27 billion of fertilizers, $624 million of uranium and plutonium, and $878 million of palladium from Russia.

Nikki Haley, a former US ambassador to the UN, recently spoke about Donald Trump’s announcements about substantially increasing tariffs on Indian imports, emphasizing that he had given “China a pass” and cautioned against affecting the strong US-India bilateral relations.

In a post on X, Haley noted that China is the “number one buyer of Russian and Iranian oil”, adding that Beijing has a 90-day tariff pause. Keep an eye out for more updates on the raging US-India tariff situation.
