From Dhaka to World Countries: The Global Journey of Bangladeshi Films

Dhallywood movies have made a historic statement on the international stage that their movies define their growth both regionally and internationally. And it has been proven with the firm establishment through their movies that are critically acclaimed and honored at diverse international events held in 2025. The powerful reason behind this evident success are the bold mix of authentic storytelling, artistic innovation and social realism. Their hefty participation in the festivals that are held across the regions including Europe, Canada, and Americas, ensures the potential of a Bangladeshi film beyond the borders.

The recent buzz in the row of their global milestone is the most significant award ‘Audience Award’ which has been bagged successfully by the 2024 Bangladeshi crime drama movie ‘Priyo Maloti’ (also known as – Whispers of a Thirsty River) directed by Shankha Dasgupta based on the true events. It is a story of a lower middle class Hindu woman, Maloti Rani Das whose life turns upside down after a tragic fire accident in which she loses her husband. Primarily director, Shankha tries to cater to diverse themes like love, loss and societal challenges faced by women.
