After Years of waiting, Netflix has finally confirmed that The Old Guard 2 will be released worldwide on July 2, 2025. The sequel to the 2020 blockbuster brings back Charlize Theron and her squad of eternally warrior-immortal friends for another action packed assignment.
Directed by Victoria Mahoney, who replaces Gina Prince-Bythewood, the movie follows up on Andy (Charlize Theron) as she deals with a new mortality. The returning cast members are KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The new cast are Uma Thurman and Henry Golding and their characters are kept under secret.
The plot continues with Andy and her crew encountering a powerful new threat. Quynh, once condemned to an endless fate beneath the sea, emerges with vengeance in her heart becoming a haunting force that could unravel the immortal’s legacy. While Andy comes to terms with her own mortality, the crew has to deal with this new threat to save humanity.
Production of The Old Guard 2 ended in 2022 but release was delayed because of the shift within Netflix as well as a temporary halt during post-production. Charlize Theron says that the filming was delayed because of the massive changes that Netflix was experiencing, affecting the post-production timeline of the film.
In spite of the disappointments, excitement for the sequel continues to run high. The first film was one of Netflix’s top streamed original movies at release, lauded for the action sequences and character arcs. With the sequel reportedly going deeper into the mythology and adding new dynamics fans are eagerly looking forward to its release.
The Old Guard 2 will begin streaming worldwide on Netflix from July 2, 2025.
