বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক will be releasing updated designs for Tk1,000, Tk50 and Tk20 banknotes into circulation on Sunday. This is the start of an effort to give the entire range of Bangladeshi money new designs inspired by the nation’s impressive historical and archaeological heritage. In this stage, the central bank aims to have these new notes ready before Eid, so the changeover in the season of holidays goes smoothly. There will be both the updated and the current notes and coins in circulation.
New Designs Celebrate National Heritage
The fresh currency series introduced by the Bangladesh Bank this week will eventually include a new design for each denomination—Tk2, Tk5, Tk10, Tk20, Tk50, Tk100, Tk200, Tk500, Tk1,000. The first release will be made up of the high-value Tk1,000, together with Tk50 and Tk20 which are widely used. The theme for design is to include well-known historic places from the country, helping to make using money something to celebrate and appreciate daily. The notes being released now will have the signature of newly appointed Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur.
Distribution, Collector Editions, and Continuity of Old Notes
Bangladesh Bank’s Motijheel office will distribute the nation’s new cash first and then its regional offices around the country will do the same. As a way to interest collectors, the central bank has designed sets of special specimen notes that are not official currency and can be sold for a set price at the Currency Museum in Mirpur. Both the new and the old currency will be accepted, supporting the easy addition of the new currency to the economy.
