Bangladesh Interim Government to make ‘quick decision’ on dissolution Ex- PM Sheikh Hasina’s Party

The Bangladesh Interim Government is mulling over banning Ex- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League as the party head was deposed in 2024 of the party members nist of them are now in run or imprisoned. The Interim Government Chief and Professor Muhammed Yunus’ statement was induced by the student-led protest outside his office through the newly formed National Citizen party. 

The NCP activists demanded for Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party to be banned and spearheaded her ousting of the Awami Party leader Hasina in August 2024 who later later formed the NCP earlier this year. 

“The government considers with seriousness the recent demand raised on behalf of different political parties, organisations and the people to disband Awami League over allegations of autocratic rule and terrorist activities,” stated the interim government’s official release. The decision will also have influence after discussing with other parties and will take quick decisions based on the circumstances. 

Along with the student led activists joined the  

leaders of different Islamist parties and groups such as Jamaat-e-Islam, its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir and Hefazat-e-Islam on Friday for the rally of the NCP.

Since its inception in 2025, the NCP has been demanding for dissolution of Hasina’s party. Still strong in their decision, “Our movement has started. This campaign may continue for one day or even a month. We will have to remain on the street until the announcement of banning Awami League is made,” an NCP leader Sarjis Alam told, reports Hindustan Times. 

Surprisingly the Bangladesh National Party, the rival of Awami League has kept their silence in the matter and started their reluctance for demolition of any political party.
