Digital Payment through Google Pay launched in Bangladesh – Details Here 

Bangladesh has introduced Google Pay for the City Bank customers who can now link their Mastercard or Visa Cards with the Google Wallet for a quick and contactless money transaction. 

The launch of Google Pay and Wallet ensures customers are introduced to a much seamless, easier and digital money transfer by tapping their mobile phones at any NFC-enabled POS terminal-whether at home or abroad.    

“This partnership reflects our commitment to building a future-ready digital payments ecosystem in Bangladesh. We are proud to bring this innovative solution to our customers and enable a smarter, more convenient way to pay”, said Mashrur Arefin, managing director and CEO of City Bank PLC.

An advanced and established method of digital payments using secured technology and using high level data security. The app also demands no PIN small transaction for functionality and easier checkout experience. 

Google Pay is also known for its encrypted technology that ensures the safety of the users’ data without the need of a physical card from small transactions in the markets to airline booking, serving a range of purposes. 

Dr Ahsan H Mansur, governor of Bangladesh Bank, who along with the Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson, Chargé d’affaires, ad interim, at the US Embassy in Dhaka, and Hossain Khaled, vice-chairman of City Bank, attended the launch as the chief guest. 

Mansur said,  “We welcome Google Pay to Bangladesh. I hope that Bangladesh will become a trusted destination for both local and foreign investors.” He also commented on inflation and the banking system and said, “The government has a target of bringing inflation down to 6.5%. However, we want to bring it down to 5%. If we can do this, we will be successful.”

Mansur also shared on a positive note that, “We want to completely fix the financial sector. In the meantime, the risk-based audit process of 20 banks has been completed, and seven more banks will be closed by the end of July.”
