On 26 April 2025, the Dhaka Metro Train services met with a huge disruption due to an electrical malfunction that took place at the Bijoy Sarani substation. Eventually, it halted the routes between Shahbagh and Shewrapara stations, which caused a significant inconvenience to passengers. Further, the station gates and ticket sales were also suspended as a consequence of this technical damage. Many passengers who were waiting for the trains had expressed their dismay and frustration over the sudden shutdown and lack of updates.
Is it resolved?
This was officially declared by the DMTCL (Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited) who underpinned that the primary line had met with a technical fault, so, due to the safety concerns other substations couldn’t automatically compensate for the failure. Though the restoration work has been started quickly, the official statement from the Metrorail services hasn’t confirmed when it will fully resume for the next operation in the station.
