For many years, Cox’s Bazar has been known as the main hub for beach tourism in Bangladesh due to its remarkably long stretch of sandy shores; however, the travel culture of the country is growing. Beach tourism is not limited to just one area; there are now many other coastal locations being developed for new beachgoers.
Cox’s Bazar Remains At the Forefront
Cox’s Bazar still leads as the premier beach destination. With newly renovated hotels, expanded roads leading to it and more diverse things to do while visiting, there is no better beach destination in the world. Visitors can take an early morning walk on the beach (Laboni Beach); enjoy a quiet time on the beachfront (Inani Beach) & sample local cuisine at the various seafood vendors and enjoy live entertainment in the evening.
Emergence of New Beach Destinations
The growing use of social media by young travellers, pictures and videos of beaches around the country are driving demand for new beach locations (e.g. Kuakata beach, St. Martin’s Island and Patenga Beach, etc.). Also, due to the limited number of people visiting each of these other beach locations, it gives visitors an opportunity to have a unique experience.
Young Travellers are the Driving Force
Once again, social media plays a major role in motivating the youth of Bangladesh to explore the different beaches found in the country. Social media platforms such as reels, vlogs and travel pictures have inspired the youth of Bangladesh to visit coastal areas. Additionally, travelling to these other beach locations has become easier to do with the advent of budget travel options and online travel booking.
Local Communities benefit from Tourism Boom
The tourism industry has created many jobs for residents across various sectors, with responsibility for the environment being supported by responsible tourism (cleaner beaches) and sustainability.
Summary
Bangladesh beach tourism has expanded beyond Cox’s Bazar, thanks to increased demand for new coastal tourist resorts as a result of upgraded infrastructure, increased visibility via social media, and increased domestic and international visitor numbers and tourist spend at these locations, thus making an increasing contribution towards building a better future for both future tourists and those living near these beaches.
