Actress Puja Cherry is dominating social‑media headlines in Bangladesh after publicly addressing a Tk 13 crore fraud and embezzlement case involving her father, Debu Prasad Roy, and firmly distancing herself from the allegations. She has repeatedly clarified that she had no role in the financial transactions and is only trying to support her family through the intense media scrutiny and legal battle.

What the Tk 13 crore fraud case is about

The case was filed by Mizanur Rahman, who claims he handed over a total of about Tk 13.2 crore to Debu Prasad Roy over several years, trusting his promises of returns from a so‑called “film‑production business.” According to the FIR, Roy first took Tk 5.5 lakh in cash in 2019, then Tk 50 lakh via Standard Bank, later Tk 6 crore in cash using non‑judicial stamps, and finally around Tk 1.2 crore through mobile financial services like bKash, Nagad, and Rocket, plus smaller follow‑up amounts.

Victim Mizanur Rahman alleges that despite repeated requests, Roy never repaid the money, kept making excuses, and at one point even began issuing threats when he pressed for a refund. Debu Prasad Roy has since been arrested and sent to jail, while police continue to verify bank and MFS transaction records.
