Your NID is the backbone of your digital identity in Bangladesh. A wrong name spelling, incorrect date of birth, or mismatched father’s name can create cascading problems across your passport, driving licence, bank KYC, and educational records. Correcting it early saves serious hassle later.

The fee depends on what you are correcting:

Important: If the error was made by the Election Commission (i.e., data was recorded incorrectly), you can apply for correction without paying any fee, per official NID rules.

Payment is accepted via bKash, Rocket, Nagad, Dutch-Bangla Bank, and other mobile banking channels.

Required Documents by Type of Correction

  • Name correction (own name): Attested SSC/Equivalent Certificate, Court Affidavit, Newspaper advertisement of name change, Spouse’s NID (if married). Father/Mother/Husband name correction, SSC certificate, birth certificate, citizenship certificate, NID copy of the person to be corrected — all attested.
  • Correction in date of birth: Attested SSC or equivalent marksheet. If the age gap is bigger, you may get a call for a personal hearing with originals.
  • Proof of residence: Recent utility bill, tax certificate, or any other document issued by the local government.
  • Blood group correction: Doctor’s certificate or medical lab report.
  • Changes related to marriage/divorce: Nikahnama (marriage) or talaq deed (divorce certificate), Husband’s NID copy. 

All documents should be attested by a gazetted officer/authorised person.

Step by Step Portal Guide (services.nidw.gov.bd)

Step 1 – Register or Login 

Go to services.nidw.gov.bd. Click on “Register” if you have not claimed your account. Provide your NID number, date of birth and registered mobile number. Check with otp.

Step 2 – Choose Correction Type

Post login, click on “NID Correction/Reissue”. Choose the area you want to repair. The system will instantly display the applicable fee.

Step 3 – Paying your fee

Pay online using bKash (Pay Bills → Government Fees → NID Service), Rocket, Nagad, or Dutch-Bangla Bank. Keep the transaction ID secure.

Step 4 – Upload Supporting Documents

Please scan and upload attested copies of all required documents in JPEG or PDF format. Make sure files are clean and within size limit.

Step 5 – Submit & Track

Apply now. You will receive an SMS confirmation. View the status of your application from the portal dashboard. Most corrections are processed within 3 weeks and you will receive an SMS notification.

Step 6 – Download New NID

Once approved, log back in and go to “Download NID” and save your corrected card. Print and laminate to use.
