Bangladesh government has issued an important reminder to the citizens enrolled in the Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) 2026. Beneficiaries must link their active bank accounts to the pension system by May 15, 2026, or risk delays, suspension or cancellation of future pension benefits.
The move is part of the government’s transition towards a fully digital pension distribution system, aimed at achieving more transparency, cutting down on fraud and providing faster monthly transfers to retirees and registered contributors.
Why you need to link bank accounts
“The bank account verification process is necessary to make sure pension payments are directly paid to the right beneficiaries,” officials say. Now, with thousands of new users joining the Universal Pension Scheme every month, authorities are tightening verification rules to check duplicate registrations and inactive accounts.
Unverified accounts may face: Starting on May 16:
- Suspension of pension payments (temporary)
- Monthly installments delayed
- Failed renewal of registration
- Reverification requests
Citizens are advised not to wait until the last day, as online portals and banking services may experience heavy traffic.
Who needs to go through the process?
This update is applicable to:
- Current Universal Pension Scheme members
- New students enrolling in 2026
