Eid ul-Adha is a time for celebration, for coming together and of course for lots of tasty meat dishes. From qurbani beef and mutton curries to kebabs and biryani, it is hard not to give in. But eating too much red meat can cause you a lot of discomfort in your stomach. This happens to your body, and how to fix it naturally at home.

What Will Happen To Your Body If You Eat Too Much Meat

Red meat is rich in protein and fat, both of which take much longer to digest than carbohydrates. If you eat large amounts at one time, your digestive system becomes overloaded. Typical symptoms include:

  • Bloating and gas – undigested proteins ferment in the gut
  • Acid reflux or heartburn. Too much fat makes the stomach produce more acid
  • Constipation – meat has no fibre, so it slows down your bowel movement
  • Fatigue and heaviness — your body is using energy to digest
  • Nausea — The liver and gallbladder are unable to process excess fat.

If left unaddressed, these symptoms can last anywhere from a few hours to an entire day.

Home remedies to soothe your stomach post Eid feasting

1. Jeera (Cumin) Water: Boil one teaspoon of cumin seeds in two cups of water and sip it warm. Cumin is a digestive stimulant and quickly relieves gas and bloating.

2. Hot water with fresh ginger and a squeeze of lemon is a powerful digestive tonic. It naturally relieves stomach cramps, reduces nausea and speeds up digestion.

3. Ajwain (Carom Seeds) Chew half a teaspoon of ajwain with a pinch of black salt and warm water. This home remedy works great for acidity and indigestion.

4. Papaya or Pineapple Both of these fruits contain natural enzymes – papain and bromelain – that actively break down protein. A little after your meal helps your body better digest heavier meats.

5. Walk after eating. A light walk of 15–20 minutes after meals will greatly improve gastric motility and prevent bloating. Do not go to bed immediately after a meat-heavy meal.

6. Drink lots of water. Drink plenty of water during the day, but not too much while eating, as it dilutes digestive acids.

Conclusion

Happy Eid, but watch your portions. Go all out, but complement your plate with salads, yoghurt raita and lemon water to help with digestion.
