Saudi Arabia’s ambitious new airline Riyadh Air is reportedly preparing to launch direct services between Dhaka and Riyadh, which could be a huge boon for hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi expatriates living and working in the Kingdom.

Bangladesh is still one of the largest sources of migrant workers for Saudi Arabia, with thousands travelling each month for work, family visits and religious reasons. Aviation analysts say the airline’s entry into Dhaka signals Saudi Arabia’s increased focus on travel demand in South Asia.

The direct route is likely to cut long layovers that passengers using connecting flights through Doha, Dubai, or Abu Dhabi now have to endure.

Ticket Booking Counters May Open Earlier Than Expected

Travel agencies in Dhaka expect the ticketing window for booking on the new route to be opened several months ahead of the official inaugural flight. Aviation insiders said the promotional fares are likely to be targeted at expatriate workers, students and Umrah travellers. Online booking systems are also expected to offer multi-lingual support with English, Arabic and Bangla-friendly travel assistance through partner agencies.

Industry insiders say there are huge discounts on advance bookings because of fierce competition among airlines on the Bangladesh-Saudi Arabia route, especially during Eid and peak expatriate travel seasons.

Competition Between Airlines May Push Ticket Prices Down

Riyadh Air’s launch will likely increase competition with existing Gulf carriers flying to Dhaka and Saudi cities. Industry insiders say ticket prices could fall temporarily as airlines try to attract Bangladeshi workers who often travel on tight budgets. Lower fares could be especially useful for workers heading home during Eid holidays or for emergency family visits.

Analysts also expect that the airline will offer promotional packages such as extra baggage, discounted return tickets and family travel packages during its initial phase of operations.

New baggage rules may offer migrant workers some relief

One of the biggest concerns for the Bangladeshi expatriates travelling from the Middle East is baggage restriction policies. Sources close to the airline say it could offer passenger baggage allowances that are more favourable to workers travelling on labour visas.

More options for check-in baggage, easier to understand excess baggage fees, and digital baggage tracking systems could become a big selling point for the airline.

Relaxed baggage policies would be a big plus for many expats carrying gifts, household items and essentials for family members in Bangladesh, compared with some existing regional carriers.”

Bangladesh-Saudi Connectivity Stronger Ahead

Riyadh Air’s introduction of direct Dhaka flights could further deepen Bangladesh-Saudi Arabia economic and cultural ties. Beyond expatriate travel, aviation experts think the route could boost tourism, investment discussions and business movement between the two countries. If the demand continues to remain strong, more routes connecting Chattogram or Sylhet with Saudi Arabia may also come up in future.

Summary

The upcoming direct Dhaka route by Riyadh Air is expected to transform travel for Bangladeshi expatriates working in Saudi Arabia. Industry insiders expect competitive ticket prices, expanded baggage allowances, and flexible booking systems aimed at migrant workers and families. The new service could also increase tourism, business travel, and remittance-linked mobility between the two countries.
