The most famous animal resident of Bangladesh right now isn’t a Royal Bengal Tiger or an Asian elephant – it’s a pale, blond-fringed buffalo with an uncanny resemblance to a world leader. Donald Trump is a rare albino water buffalo that went viral in Bangladesh in May 2026 on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. The owner chose the name because the buffalo’s head hair and pink body colour resembled the 47th president of the United States. The animal was reared at Rabeya Agro Farm in the Paikpara area of Narayanganj city and bought from Rajshahi City Cattle Market 1 month after Eid al-Adha in 2025.
How a Government Rescue at the Last Minute Saved Him
The buffalo was sold for sacrifice before fame could step in. The animal was to be spared at the orders of Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, who ordered the buyer to be refunded, citing “security concerns” and the “unusual level of public interest” surrounding the animal. The government paid Tk 3,30,000 to the owner for the buffalo, and after last-minute talks between the government, a decision was taken not to sacrifice the animal. The buffalo, which weighed almost 700 kilograms, arrived at the Bangladesh National Zoo in Dhaka on May 28, and visitors flocked almost immediately to see the unusual animal whose pale coat and light-coloured hair had made it a local and international curiosity.
Where Is He At The Zoo?
“The buffalo will be kept in quarantine for two weeks for examination for any disease before it is put on full public display, and arrangements have been made for feeding the buffalo,” zoo curator Md Atiqur Rahman told The Daily Star. The caretakers have already created a separate enclosure for the buffalo and have also allotted a dedicated caregiver to take care of him. Ask directions from the zoo staff at the main gate to reach the cattle and livestock enclosure area, where the buffalo is located.

The Bangladesh National Zoo is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM in summer (April-October) and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in winter (November-March) on Monday to Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.
