The Sundarbans, which is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is without a doubt one of the natural wonders nearest to Barishal that cannot be missed during your trip. Besides mangroves and tigers, it also boasts a very diverse animal population. If you want to make the most out of your visit, then timing is a crucial factor. The recommended period for traveling from Barishal to the Sundarbans is between November and March when the weather is cool, dry, and perfect for exploration. The weather is great, the temperatures range from 12°C to 25°C. This is a perfect time for traveling because the landscapes are beautiful and you get the best chance to see wildlife like tigers, crocodiles, and birds migrating.

Winter (November to March): The Perfect Season

  • Weather: The winter season is pleasant and cool, with occasional rainfall and clear skies—ideal for photography and sightseeing.
  • Wildlife: You would be lucky to spot a tiger sunning itself, a croc on the riverbanks, and many species of birds that move in for the winter. Besides, it is easier now to see wildlife for the water is still and the animals are not so shy.
  • Activities: The winter is when the best time to go on a boating safari is when you can see the mangrove forest and its river channels. The weather is still perfect and everyone’s mood plus safety is guaranteed.

Other Seasons to Consider

March to May is the summer season. The area goes through a very hot and humid climate which makes it rather difficult to do outdoor activities. There might be fewer animals around as they are all lying in the shade to cool off.

The months from June to September are referred to as the monsoon season and are characterized by heavy rainfall and flooding that could disrupt travel plans and make boat rides unsafe. However, this is the time of the year when the Sundarbans’ greenery is at its best, plus, nearby areas celebrate the Hilsa Festival, giving you a chance to experience an interesting culture if you come during this time.
