Many Bangladeshi savers are still dependent on the old profit figures they heard from neighbours or relatives. But the rates you knew from early 2025 are no longer valid for new purchases. As part of the move to a market-driven interest rate system, the government reduced interest rates on all major National Savings Certificates by 47 to 57 basis points from July 1, 2025. The new rates apply to certificates bought on or after July 1. Certificates bought before July 1 will continue to earn the higher, old rates until maturity.

So if you are planning a new investment right now, here is exactly what you will make.

Pensioner Sanchayapatra at the top

The Pensioner Savings Certificate is currently giving the highest annual return – 11.98% for investments up to Tk 7.5 lakh and 11.80% for amounts above that. But this scheme is only for the retired government employees and their families. If you’re eligible, this is the very best option on offer under the National Savings Scheme right now.

Family Sanchayapatra – Best Choice for Women and Home Makers

The Family Savings Certificate offers an 11.93% annual rate of interest for investments up to Tk 7.5 lakh. This scheme is mainly for Bangladeshi women, and it is the most popular savings instrument among housewives and working women. It pays a profit every month, which is perfect for families who want a steady monthly income to pay for household expenses.

Get paid every three months? Pick this one

This 3-Month Profit-Bearing Sanchayapatra gives profit every quarter instead of at the time of maturity and is therefore suitable for investors who need regular cash flow for meeting day-to-day expenses or family liabilities. If you are retired or a small business owner who wants a predictable income every 90 days, this scheme is a practical, government-backed solution.

Tax Deduction You Cannot Forget

Many investors in Bangladesh only look at the headline profit rate and ignore the source tax, which is deducted before payment. Profits on investments up to Tk 5 lakh are taxed at source at 5%. For investments above Tk 5 lakh that tax is 10%. Always work out your actual take-home return after tax before you decide how much to invest in which scheme.

If your investment is more than Tk 5 lakh, you will have to pay 10% tax on profits, which will reduce your effective return. So keep this in mind before you compare with the rates of bank FDR.

Quick Guide: Which plan is right for you?

  • Pensioner Sanchayapatra (highest return 11.98%) → Retired government official
  • Women and Homemakers –> Family Sanchayapatra (11.93% monthly income)
  • General Investor, Long Term → 5 Year Bangladesh Savings Certificate (11.83%)
  • Need income every 3 months → Profit-Bearing Sanchayapatra (11.82%) of 3 months
  • Post Office Savings Certificate (11.82%) → Investing via post office

Sanchayapatra still remains the safest and the most rewarding risk-free investment instrument available for the common Bangladeshi citizens, even after the rate revision in July 2025. The bank FDR rates in Bangladesh are now generally around 6% at most institutions, but Sanchayapatra, with its full government backing, still more than doubles that return. Verify your eligibility, work out your after-tax profit, and select the scheme that meets your monthly income requirements.

Summary

Pensioner Sanchayapatra gives the highest return at 11.98% for up to Tk 7.5 lakh. Family Sanchayapatra follows at 11.93%. Rates were revised downward from July 2025. Check which scheme suits you best before investing your hard-earned money.
