The Meril-Prothom Alo Awards 2025 were held on April 24, 2026, and brought together many stars from Bangladesh’s film and television industries to showcase excellence in performance. Many have called this event “the Oscars of Bangladesh” due to its high level of prestige; however, after hosting another successful event, it continues to be a benchmark for awards and recognition within the entertainment industry in Bangladesh.
The focus of the event was placed almost entirely on two performers, Afran Nisho and Tama Mirza, who each won awards for their outstanding performances in the film Daagi.

Afran Nisho’s Double Triumph
The evening proved to be particularly memorable for Afran Nisho, given his stature as a prominent television performer; however, he added a new level of recognition and acclaim by winning Best Actor—Film (Daagi). Nisho also achieved victory in another category, Best TV Actor (Purnojonmo: Antim Porbo), demonstrating that he easily transitions between film and television. Winning a double award like this is unusual and demonstrates the growing influence that Nisho possesses in the Bangladesh entertainment industry.
The best actress award (film) went to Tama Mirza for her outstanding portrayal in Daagi (film). The biggest winner of the night, by all accounts, was the film Daagi (also known as Utshob). The film won best film, along with actor awards, and is considered to be both critically and commercially appealing, with its theatrical production and strong performances making it the focal point of the evening’s ceremonies.
