Just like many nations, Bangladesh also has been through revolutions and wars and one of the most important of them is the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Here are some films that will give a better understanding of the history of the war or let a glimpse into the period. 

Children of War

The turbulent political climate discussed from the point of view of innocent civilians and victims of the mass genocide that reportedly killed millions off the record is the plot of this powerful and incandescent movie released in 2014. Based on real events and stories from the 1971 war time.

Based on a real life personality, Captain Balram Singh Mehta of India’s 45 Cavalry Regiment who wrote his own memoir ‘The Burning Chaffees. The film follows real life events of Battle of Garibpur in 1971 and discusses the bravery and valour of the people.

Aguner Poroshmoni

Regarded highly as one of the best interpretations and showcases of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, Aguner Poroshmoni is about a young man named Baidul Alam who wants to start a revolution in Dhaka and his journey. Adapted from the novel by the same name by Humayun Ahmed who also directed the film.

Hangor Nodi Grenade 

Another novel to film adaptation that also won multiple national awards, Hangor Nodi Grenade is also considered one of the best films based on war. It follows through patriotism and dedication beyond the military perspective and with an inspiring plot.

Joyjatra

Set in the Liberation war climate, Joyjatra follows the point of view of the civilians and the innocents from different backgrounds, villages and class. The story follows a group of people who are stuck in a boat for days to try and reach the Indian borders to escape the Pakistani attack.
