The entire first week of September is filled with interesting OTT releases on the leading streaming hubs such as Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, JioHotstar, ZEE5, and MX Player. Whether it’s spine-chilling crime thrillers or warm family classics and light-hearted comedies, there is a streaming option to match every mood. Be it dark mysteries, emotional stories, or reality competitions, this week is likely to be filled with so much variety in entertainment that it will keep viewers glued.
Crime, Suspense, and Dark Mysteries
Lovers of dramatic narration will have lots to eat. Inspector Zende (Apple TV+, Sept 5) is based on the true life of Mumbai officer Madhukar Zende and his pursuits of a serial killer named Carl Bhojraj, which was inspired by Charles Sobhraj. Maalik (Prime Video, Sept 5) is an unapolitical, non-starry, dark, North Indian underworld that can be seen as full of betrayal and political deception.
Joining the crime wave comes Hollywood’s Highest 2 Lowest (Prime Video, Sept 5), a movie that stars Denzel Washington as a music mogul who was pushed to make tough decisions after his son was kidnapped. Kammattam (ZEE5, Sept 5) presents a fictional financial scandal in Kerala from the viewpoint of Inspector Antonio George.
On the documentary front, Netflix’s Love Con Revenge (Sept 5) features fraud on online dating, and Cecilie Fjellhoy (the Tinder Swindler) has partnered with a detective to uncover fraud. Meanwhile, the second part of season 2 of the long-awaited Wednesday (Netflix, Sept 3) brings back the gothic escapades of Jenna Ortega, but this time, Lady Gaga has entered the frame as a co-star.
Trying to be less dramatic, Lilo and Stitch (Live Action) by Disney (JioHotstar, Sept 3) is the new version of the most popular fairy tale about friendship and a family, which is ideal to watch with the whole family.
Comedy, Music, Animation, and Reality
The second half of the week is dominated by lighter options. The Runarounds (Prime Video, Sept 5) is a feel-good musical comedy in which five friends pursue their dreams, but manage to stumble over relationships. The Paper (JioHotstar, Sept 5) provides an excellent mockumentary-style examination of the challenges of a dying newspaper in the digital age.
Food lovers will have a good time with Dish It Out (Prime Video, Sept 5), in which Tilly Ramsay imaginatively uses surprise ingredients in entertaining celebrity guests. More pleasurable stop-motion adventures with Haru and her Pokémon friends can be found in Pokémon Concierge Season 1 Part 2 (Netflix, Sept 4).
Reality TV enthusiasts can watch Rise and Fall (MX Player, Sept 6), where Ashneer Grover hosts celebrities and puts them in a rulers-versus-workers type of survival game that is full of drama, alliances, and betrayals.
Such a diverse combination of genres, including thrillers, comedies, musicals, animations, and competitions, makes the OTT calendar of this week a promising guarantee to have something to stream all the time.
