Netflix’s November Korean slate is smaller than usual, but it has two big titles: a Korea-Japan crime thriller and a new film from one of Korea’s most respected directors.
Possible Love (Netflix Film, November 6)
Possible Love is a film from director Lee Chang-dong, not a series. It stars Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung, Cho Yeo-jeong and Jo Yu-ri, and runs 164 minutes. Esquire India describes it as a drama about entwined lives, loss and second chances. What’s on Netflix calls it South Korea’s official Oscar entry. It had a limited US theatrical run from October 23, and it streams worldwide tomorrow.
The Blue Road (Netflix Original, November 20)
This eight-episode crime thriller is a Korea-Japan co-production. Son Suk-ku and Japan’s Eita Nagayama play detectives working the same serial killer case from opposite sides of the sea. Han Jun-hee directs. It is adapted from a 2002 comic, and Kim Shin-rok, Choi Sung-eun and Jung Jae-young are in the cast.
Three episodes premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, where What’s on Netflix gave it 4 out of 5 and called it a brutal buddy-cop thriller. It is Netflix’s penultimate K-drama of the year.
Titles Limited to Netflix Korea
Two big titles will not stream worldwide on Netflix:
- Good Partner Season 2 (November 20): Jang Na-ra returns in the SBS legal drama, which is coming only to Netflix Korea.
- Nine to Six: Park Min-young stars in an SBS workplace romance, also limited to Netflix Korea.
Where the Period Dramas Are
Period fans should look elsewhere in November. Sword & Silence (KBS2, November 14) is a Silla-era epic with Lee Hyun-wook, but no global streamer is confirmed. The Remarried Empress is on Disney+ and JioHotstar. Netflix’s own period K-drama Tantara, with Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo, is confirmed for December.
