Bangladesh and South Korea are shifting further towards closer relationships in the infrastructure sector when new opportunities to expand the transport, power, and water systems of the nation are exploited. The most recent indication towards this enhanced collaboration has been the sixth annual Infrastructure project road show 2025, which was hosted at Amari Hotel in Dhaka where both parties displayed their readiness to work together in the future.

The Embassy of South Korea together with Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) organized this high-profile event, as a gathering of 35 Korean engineering firms and 13 Bangladeshi agencies of a broad background were present. During the whole-day event, authorities and the corporate world leaders talked about the measures that would make infrastructure projects in Bangladesh more sustainable and global.

Korean financial and technical support in focus

Korean representatives who spoke at the event also highlighted the continuous provision by the Korea Exim bank under the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF). A number of key industries such as roads, railways, production of power, and supply of water to the urban population – all these industries will be winners in case of further investments of the Koreans.

The planners in Bangladesh observed the growing magnitude of South Korean activities and commended the extensive history of successful Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects undertaken by the industry players such as Samsung C&T and Hyundai E&C. Already these projects worth billions of dollars are already transforming urban Bangladesh.

Bangladesh outlines future demand

The Planning Commission, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Dhaka WASA on the Bangladesh side discussed some major projects in detail. The pitches included all the solutions like the enhancement of road networks, the modernization of the water treatment plants, and the development of the metro rail in the capital.

The Planning Commission also drummed up some goodwill when the Korean side was informed about the process of approval of projects, which according to the Planning Commission commences with feasibility study followed by a grant of permission by the ECNEC. This clarity was welcomed by Korean delegates and they emphasized the desire to work on new sources of funding.

Long-term commitment on both sides

Appearing as keynote speaker during the ceremony, KOTRA Dhaka Director General Jinhak Hur also stressed the reputation of South Korea in having a long-term commitment to the country, naming it as one of Seoul most worthwhile infrastructure partners. The other Korean participants also concurred that the discussion should not be limited to the conventional sectors but it should also incorporate the new fields such as green energy and smart city solutions.

It is an event that continues years of fruitful collaboration and highlights a common dream of strong regional connectivity. The two governments will also expand their projects in the future so trade routes are more comfortable, reduce the costs of the services people receive, and improve their livelihoods.

Following the continuous one to one meetings between Korean companies and the Bangladesh government, mutual collaborations seem to be charted clear in the near future. South Korea is also keen on offering skill know-how, fund, and progress to assist Bangladesh to turnaround its crucial national infrastructure.
