Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a massive heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on Monday and is currently in critical condition at KPJ Specialised Hospital in Savar.

During an ongoing game at BKSP against Shinepukur Cricket Club, the 36 year old batsman who was captaining the Mohammedan Sporting Club team was on the field when he began to feel discomfort in his chest. He initially went to a hospital nearby for a check up. The tests (ECG and blood test) raised red flags. He returned to the game but subsequently had to be taken back to the hospital as his symptoms worsened from there.

Doctors have established that Tamim had a serious heart attack and required an angiogram, angioplasty and stenting to treat a blockage in his coronary artery. The hospital’s media director, Dr. Rajib Hasan has said that the procedure was successful but Tamim is still in critical condition and under constant watch in the hospital’s CCU.

His health has worried the cricket community in Bangladesh with fans and past teammates hoping for his recovery. Medical professionals warn that even though his condition has stabilized, he is not out of danger yet.
