The political climate in Bangladesh keeps worsening as the Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin is said to be stepping out of his role after continuous disputes with the Interim government. His issue with Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammed Yunus.

According to a Time of India article, Jashim Uddin was sacked from his role after he voiced out his contrasting ideas in accepting the initiative of a ‘humanitarian corridor’ and a ‘safe zone’ for Rohingya refugees. He was ‘not in sync’ with the Chief of Advisor Muhhamaed Yunus and Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain.

Endorsed by the UN and pushed by Yunus, the Rohingya refugee corridor was refused by Md Jashim Uddin who aligned with the country’s military brass who thought the initiative could compromise the sovereignty of the nation.

Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain while speaking to Bangladeshi reporters on wednesday said that the current Foreign Secretary is not interested in working on the position. Uddin was also not seen involved or present in any of the ministerial matters for over 10 days, reports Prothom Alo.

Md Jashim Uddin was also not present to lead the Bangladesh delegation meeting with Japan at Tokyo, a clear foreign secretary level meeting that happened without a Foreign Secretary in over five decades.

It is not the first time Jashim Uddin was tried to be removed from his position as in March 2025, he was reported to face sacking, only to be intervened by the foreign advisor.
