The country has also called on the world to take stronger global action to end plastic pollution in Bangladesh and highlighted the necessity to strive to achieve a high-level international collaboration. By speaking at a high-level global platform, the country singled out the fact that decades of plastic waste have devastated waterways, soil, ecosystems, and the health of people. Bangladesh is quite persuasive in the sense that individual country solutions are no longer sufficient to fight this growing menace. With its track record of being one of the first nations to ban thin plastic bags, the nation is now calling on the world to sign a single consolidated treaty that is binding. This paper discusses the strong appeal of Bangladesh to foster collective responsibility to stop plastic pollution in the world.

Bangladesh Reinforces its Global Leadership

At the High-Level Ministerial of the High Ambition Coalition to End Plastic Pollution at UNEA-7 in Nairobi, Bangladesh declared a powerful campaign in a comprehensive treaty. Dr. Farhina Ahmed, the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, said that Bangladesh has endured the grim impacts of plastic waste-filled rivers to food chains polluted to death. Her stronger global action to end plastic pollution should be rapid and radical to avoid further destruction of the environment.

A Legacy of Environmental Commitment

The first nation to prohibit thin plastic bags was Bangladesh, which led by example in the world on environmental accountability. Dr. Farhina called upon the international community to remember that ambition only works in the presence of good cooperation of the population and the implementation of policies. She emphasized that the current position of Bangladesh is the result of decades of experience in addressing plastic pollution on all levels.

A Call for an Ambitious Global Plastic Treaty

The environment secretary emphasized that national efforts can never solve a crisis of such magnitude in a fragmented manner. Bangladesh is urging to have a treaty with a comprehensive lifecycle of plastic production, chemical use, waste management, and the protection of vulnerable populations under the influence of pollution. Her stronger global action to end plastic pollution is stopped to protect humans and the environment.

Urgency in Negotiations

Dr. Farhina requested nations to speed up the process of negotiations, but she cautioned that time is of the essence since any type of procrastination would raise the already alarming pollution rates. She demanded better quality text of drafts, greater political will, and a reduced number of procedures. All of those delays, she said, will mean another year of unmitigated pollution, which the world simply cannot afford.

Bangladesh’s Continued Engagement

Bangladesh also took part in the toxic chemical threats sessions led by the Bangladesh delegation, which comprised an Additional Director General, Md. Ziaul Haque. Their participation highlights the strong interest of Bangladesh in environmental justice, sustainability, and collaboration in the international arena.
