How can you claim 1GB of free data on ‘Free Internet Day’ announced by BTRC

In protest against the 2024 internet shutdown and the July Uprising Day, The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has directed all mobile phone operators to provide 1GB of free internet to users on July 18. 

The decision was made during a BTRC meeting on Tuesday and all mobile subscribers in the country are getting 1 GB internet data free for 5 days from Friday. BTRC approved this initiative following instructions from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, working towards reflecting public aspirations and promoting digital freedom. 

All mobile operators responded to this initiative and are providing 1 GB internet data free to their customers for 5 days. Advance messages were sent to the users of any mobile network indicating the use of free internet on July 18, said a press issue signed by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. 

How to claim the 1GB Free Data from Friday

Mobile users must dial the respective codes of their mobile operators in order to get the 1GB Free data. 

  • Banglalink: *121*1807#
  • Robi: *4*1807#
  • Teletalk: *111*1807#

During the anti-discrimination student movement demanding reform in the quota of government jobs in 2024, the mobile internet was shut down on the night of 17 July. The next day, even the broadband internet was shut down, resulting in the country being in complete digital blackout.
