Interpretation & Observations
• The US dollar remains the primary reference for the taka; ~ 1 USD buys ~ 121.8 taka. Bangladesh uses this as a benchmark and sets cross-rates for other currencies based on the USD / BDT rate.
• Against the euro, the taka is relatively weaker (i.e., fewer taka per euro), given 1 EUR ~~ 142 taka, meaning the euro is valued higher relative to the taka compared to USD.
• Against the Indian rupee, the taka is somewhat strong: 1 taka gives ~ 0.73 rupee, so we need more taka to match one rupee. This reflects the relative strength and stability of INR vs BDT in the regional context.
• Against the Pakistani rupee, the taka is significantly stronger: 1 taka gives more than 2 PKR. It means the Pakistani rupee is weaker vs the taka in this pairing.
• Against the Russian ruble, 1 tak ~~ 0.64 – 0.67 RUB. Thus, the taka is stronger than the ruble when it is compared per unit although the ruble is volatile and subjected to geopolitical and economic factors.
