People in Dhaka are getting ready for more cold weather and thick fog because the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) says winter is likely to last a few more days. People are already having trouble with daily tasks, seeing, and staying healthy because of the long, cold spell, especially in the early morning.

Low temperatures are caused by a cold wave

The Met Office says that the lowest temperatures in Dhaka and the surrounding areas will stay below the normal levels for this time of year. Because of the cold wave and the lack of wind, it feels colder in the mornings and at night than normal. Hospitals are seeing more people with cold-related illnesses, and it’s mostly older people, kids, and people who work outside.

Dense fog makes it harder to see

Late at night and early in the morning, dense fog continues to cover the city, making it very hard to see on roads and highways. In some places, traffic has slowed down, which makes crashes more likely. Drivers have been told to use fog lights and stay below the speed limit, and passengers will have to wait longer to get to work.

What it means for air and river travel

The persistent fog has also made it hard to travel by air and water. Because it was hard to see early in the morning, flights at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were late. At the same time, ferry and launch services on major river routes have been operating slowly, and some services have been briefly halted to protect passengers.

Health Warning Sent Out

Health professionals are telling people to protect themselves from getting sick. It is strongly suggested that you wear warm clothes, especially in the early morning, and stay inside when you don’t have to be outside. The government is telling people with breathing problems to stay inside and wear masks when they go outside.

When will things get better in Dhaka?

Meteorologists say there isn’t going to be any relief soon because the current weather trends mean that fog and low temperatures will continue. Things might get a little better as the week goes on if the wind picks up or the temperature goes up a bit, but for now, winter conditions are expected to rule.
