The home remedies in Bangladesh have been a part of traditional medicine, and it is well-known as a country with affordable and natural treatment to the common ailments. Most families use herbal and kitchen-made remedies to soothe minor health conditions like coughs, colds, fevers, stomach, and skin related conditions. The remedies are based on the centuries-old Ayurvedic and Unani traditions and they are accepted by the culture as well as they are economical. Although they are not alternatives to medical care in case of serious illnesses, they tend to be faster acting solutions to mild to moderate health complications, which is why over-the-counter medicines are unnecessary.

1. Relief for Cold and Cough

Cold and cough are some of the most common complaints in the case of seasonal changes. A well-known type of remedy is honey and ginger juice which soothes sore throats and clears mucus. Cough syrup Boiled tulsi (holy basil) leaves mixed with black pepper and a touch of honey makes a natural cough syrup that helps in immunity. The warm water mixed with turmeric also relieves irritation and congestion on the throat.

2. Remedies for Fever

As the mild fever hits, the Bangladeshi families resort to the herbal drinks. Tulsi, Ginger and Black pepper decoction works well to lower the body temperature and deal with fatigue. It is important to be hydrated, just like coconut water and rice starch (named phej) is a traditional fluid that replenishes electrolytes and maintains the body cool.

3. Solutions for Stomach Problems

In the tropical climates, digestive problems such as indigestion, bloating and diarrhea are a common occurrence. Warm water with a mixture of cumin and black salt helps in the digestive process and mint and coriander juice soothes the stomach. A mixture of mashed banana, honey is used in the treatment of diarrhea to replace the lost nutrients and enhances the stability of bowel movements.

4. Skin and Hair Care Remedies

Sandalwood-paste or neem leaf should be used as natural protection against bacteria in the case of skin rashes or acne. Coconut oil is a multifunctional product in the care of dry skin and hair, and aloe vera gel is mostly used in the treatment of sunburns and itching.

5. Boosting Immunity Naturally

The bangladeshi families tend to consume turmeric milk, garlic and seasonal fruits such as guava and papaya to boost their immunity. These are foods high in antioxidants and vitamins that are needed in the prevention of infections.
