In the February 2026 elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) scored an overwhelming triumph after many years of political unrest. The new government, composed of members of the party, is under the leadership of Tarique Rahman and has made job creation; organizational restructuring; and revitalizing the country’s economy its top priorities through the “Bangladesh First” initiative.

BNP’s Bold Economic Reforms

The July Charter will implement a major overhaul of the BNP Government, including a bicameral Parliament and stable constitutional entities. Reinvigorated closed manufactures, increased diversification of exports, allow foreign companies to transfer 100% of their profits from the new orders established within 30 days from the completion of manufacturing facilities, and provide monthly supplements for necessities to impoverished families to address inflation through a “Family Card” system.

Job Creation and Skill Boost

BNP aims to create 1 million ICT jobs with a focus on merit-based hiring and fair wages that adjust with inflation and are reviewed every two years. Youth will receive both technical and language training; one-stop skill centers as well as employment exchanges will be established throughout the country. Small/medium enterprises and cottage industries are provided with low-interest loans to empower disadvantaged communities.

Health and Education Overhaul

Spending on health care will rise to 5% of G.D.P.; recruiting up to 100,000 new workers (the majority women) to serve as primary care providers nationwide. Free medicine (including all cancer treatments) and immunizations will also be established. Education will be expanded by providing each teacher and student with a tablet computer, enhancing trade skills education, continuing to provide mid-day meal programs, and developing character education programs at the sixth grade.
