As Bangladesh remains a valuable asset as well as a benchmark for jewellery, gold prices fluctuate every day based on direction from global markets, currency rates, purity and local demand. Below are the current rates of 14K, 18K and 24K gold in Bangladesh, along with some context, purity considerations, and buying tips.
Current Rates (Per Gram)
According to recent data:
- 24K Gold (pure / 999) — ~ ৳16,164.48 per gram (goldpricez.com)
- 18K Gold — ~ ৳12,123.36 per gram (goldpricez.com)
- 14K Gold — ~ ৳9,429.28 per gram (goldpricez.com)
Another source gives slightly different figures (due to time, spread, labour costs):
Goldrate24 has provided the same confirmation that the current market price for 24K gold is approximately ৳16,005.29 per gram, while 18K is quoted at ৳12,015.98 and 14K is at a price of ৳9,372.47 per gram in Bangladesh today.
The small difference in prices arises from the different seller margins, timing of the market, and local refiners’ premiums.
What Do the Price Differences by Karats Mean?
“Karat” (K) is the measurement of the purity of the gold – 24K is almost pure gold (≈ 99.9%), and 18K gold is 75% pure gold, 25% alloy metals, and 14K gold is approximately 58.3% pure gold. The higher the purity of the gold, the more it’s valued as base gold. In this case:
- 24K = Highest value most “pure”
- 18K = Less expensive than the 24K, and is durable
- 14K = Value is less than the 18K and contains an even higher percentage of alloy
This is why 18K gold can typically be bought by customers for 70-80 % of the price for 24K gold (in local terms) and 14K gold is moderately even lower than that.
More Influencing Factors That Are Affecting the Final Price
- Labor / making charges & Wastage: Many jewelers will have a premium added for labor/ making charges, designer complexity, and wastage.
- Spread between selling & buying: Dealers will make a “bid-ask spread” for their profit margins.
- Currency Exchange & The gold price in other countries: Gold sold in Bangladesh are determined upon the USD spot rate, and the exchange rates between BDT.
- Local Supply / Demand: Prices can increase due to seasonal demand (weddings, Festivals, etc.).
Advice for buyers and sellers
- Check multiple jewellers – Check prices that include the labour charge and design premiums.
- Ask for certifications/hallmarking of purity – To ensure that you know the purity labeled (for example 916 for 22K, 750 for 18K and,585 for 14K).
- Negotiate the making charge – The making charges, especially for plain designs and for slight discounts for bulk purchases can be adjusted.
- Buy when global gold is soft- Be attentive to international spot gold prices in relation to local prices.
- Resale potential- Focus on pure gold (24K) rather than designs as purity, design and condition value (hold) may affect the resale value of your jewelry.
