Japan to give $1.06 Billion to Bangladesh for budget support: Dhaka says

Bangladesh Interim head and Professor Muhammad Yunus’ diplomatic visit to Japan to strengthen ties between the countries sprouts a massive investment from Tokyo. Japan has agreed to give $1.063 billion in support to Bangladesh for budget assistance, railway upgrades, and education. 

The package includes $418 Million as a development policy loan to Dhaka to help with the economic and climate reforms. The announcement was revealed by Yunus’ official press release. 

Muhammed Yunus during his 4 days official visit to Japan was welcomed by the country’s officials and diplomats. Regarding the visit and the loan, the official page of the Chief Advisor of the Government of Bangladesh shared, “Tokyo will provide $1.063 billion to Dhaka as budget support, railway upgradation and grants”. 

The post also revealed that the loan also includes, “641 million dollars for upgradation of Joydevpur-Ishwardi into a dual-gauge double railway track and another 4.2 million dollars as grants for scholarships.

Muhammed Yunus on his third day of visit on 30 May was awarded the honorary doctorate degree from Japan’s Soka University. Yunus also attended a roundtable discussion in Tokyo on Friday where he shared his gratitude for Japan’s support. “Wonderful to see you all; it is something that reassures us. “In the last 10 months we were building things piece by piece; that’s where Japan’s support was extremely helpful,” said the Chief of Advisor.
