Prime Minister Tarique Rahman launched the pre-pilot phase of the Farmer Card project in the Tangail Sadar in a big push to boost agricultural support systems. The programme is a significant step in the direction of computerisation of the welfare of farmers and direct financial aid to those who most need it.
It was inaugurated in Shaheed Maruf Stadium through a special ceremony on Pahela Baishakh (April 14, 2026).
- Farmer Cards and saplings were given to pre-chosen farmers by the Prime Minister.
- During the launch, approximately 15 farmers were given cards.
- The programme addresses agricultural inclusion and modernisation by the government.
What is the Farmer Card Initiative?
The Farmer Card is designed to be an online financial assistance program to farmers, particularly:
•Landless farmers
•Marginal farmers
•In agriculture, fisheries and livestock, small-scale farmers.
It is a debit card system that assists the farmers in directly accessing government support and subsidies.
Programme Characteristics
The pre-pilot stage has started in various locations.
Initiated in 11 upazilas such as Tangail Sadar, Panchagarh Sadar and Teknaf.
Covering approximately 21,500 farmers at the beginning.
All the cards are loaded with Tk 2,500 a year in the form of mobile banking.
The money can be expended on:

•Fertilizers
•Pesticides
•Livestock feed
