After CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju died, the intelligence is carefully following possible candidates to take up his position. His death has left those loyal to the cause with a big leadership gap. Two individuals are now thought to be in line to compete for the country’s top post, according to security officials. Devuji, the alias used by Thippiri Tirupathi, is presently heading the Central Military Commission, which decides on the outfit’s military tasks. A 62-year-old leader from the Madiga community in Jagtial district, Telangana, serves as the leader of the party.

Mallojula will also compete under the name Sonu. Currently, the party relies on ideas from the 70-year-old Brahmin from Peddapalli, who is valued because he is Kishenji’s brother. According to intelligence reports, Tirupathi’s strong links with the marginalized tribal people could make him useful for mobilizing these cadres. But, having expert knowledge in ideology and being related to past leaders could help Venugopal Rao steady the party during the change. Neither candidate matches the ability or role of the former leaders, suggesting the group’s leadership structure has weakened due to recent years of operating against top leaders.Meta
