A UK eVisa is a digital record of your immigration status, different from an electronic travel authorisation (ETA). Your UK immigration requirements could be different from someone from a different country. The entire scenario depends on:

– nationality

– duration of stay

– purpose of travel

– circumstances and skills

Some people only need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA), but others require an eVisa to enter the UK. It is important to understand the difference and keep the documentation up to date to skip unnecessary delays at border controls.

UK eVisas are secure digital records of your identity, visa status and the conditions of your stay in the UK. Unlike traditional physical documents, they exist online and can be accessed through your UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.

eVisas are starting to replace:

– biometric residence permits (BRPs)

– biometric residence cards (BRCs)

– visa vignettes and passport stamps

It is easy to get confused about eVisas and ETAs. You can find more details on the official platform. Just to get things started, keep in mind that ETAs are for short-term, visa-free visitors. eVisas, on the other hand, are for those getting approved visas or permissions.

To access your eVisa, create an UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account. You need to register using your email address and phone number. Make sure to confirm your identity and link your eVisa. Submit supporting details such as:

– passport and visa application number, or

– passport and BRP number, or

– expired BRP card (valid for up to 18 months after expiry)

Make sure the information in your UKVI account matches your travel documents. Errors may cause unnecessary chaos. Changes in your passport, contact details or personal information must be updated immediately.
