Through this move, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) means to improve trust and transparency by giving out prize money and ticket revenue shares to all participating teams of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). After many weeks of debate, the BCB made the decision during an emergency gathering at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on May 31. With this ruling, the BCB takes a big step to solve the financial problems that had been bothering many franchise owners. A total of Tk. 3.55 crore was given for distribution, with playoff teams getting bigger sums because of their achievements.
How the Revenue Will Be Shared Among BPL Franchises
Those close to the board say the payment process will use a performance-based approach:
- Playoff Teams (4 franchises): Tk. 55 lakh each
- Non-Playoff Teams (3 franchises): Tk. 45 lakh each
But before making the payments, BCB will remove franchise fees and other expenses that are still owed each team. The and will then be added to each franchise’s account. The policy guarantees proper handling of finances and on-time following of the BCB’s administration and finance rules.
Delayed Disbursement Sparks Franchise Concerns
The lack of a clear announcement had made things unpredictable for many franchises, mainly those who were rushing to finish their post-season financial matters. The BCB has not explained the reason, but sources claim that missing payments and troubles with auditing led to the hold-up. In certain personally arranged meetings with BCB, some franchise officials were said to urge a quick decision because they find it hard to manage both operations and salaries. Because of this recent approval, the board appears to be making an effort to calm the concerns of its franchisee community.
Fortune Barishal wound up as winners of the BPL after a tense game against Chittagong Kings. Winning the contest has made them famous in the country and put a lot of money in their hands. After winning the tournament, Barishal reportedly had not received all their earnings, underlining that improvements are needed to ensure athletes receive their pay.
BCB leaders say that offering financial help is a key move toward better supporting the franchises in Bangladesh’s leading T20 tournament. It is said that the board wants to sign long-term deals with teams, introduce ways to see future revenue and innovate the payments procedure. Adding SRO into this role, people think, will lessen stress between the group in charge and team owners and help secure better partnerships and ways to draw fans.
One senior BCB official stated: “Our franchises are vital to the success of the BPL. This disbursement is not just a financial transaction—it’s a commitment to building a sustainable ecosystem for domestic cricket.”
The Road Ahead: Financial Reforms and Franchise Partnerships
Although the disbursement is helpful now, experts say that delays happening repeatedly point to the urgent need for a fully automated and policy-based revenue collection system. People affected by the company suggested that audits be conducted each year, payments should be monitored live and bonuses should be offered based on performance to make operations more effective in the future.
