The Fourth day of Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka at Galle had the young Bangladeshi off- spinner Nayeem Hasan restricting the Sri Lankan lineup in the first innings. At lunch the hosts scored 485 and Hasan utilised the pitch to his advantage.
Nayeem Hasan marked an impressive fifer giving 121 runs and was well assisted by Hasan Muhmed who registered 3-74, holding the run score from the Sri Lankan batsmen. The spinners made the most of the pitch which had turn and bounce finally on the fourth day helped the visitors to cash on it.
Kamindu Mendis and Milan Rathnayake fought to stretch the seventh wicket run score, when the Sri Lankan side was at 465-6 after the first session. The duo scored a 84- run stand for the seventh wicket partnership. The hosts then lost balance post lunch, crumbling with the lower order lineup.
Mahmud’s swift wicket from an inside edge sneaked up Rathnayake’s struggling inning and stopped him at 39. Left hander Kamindu, who was standing to register his third hundred against Bangladesh was surprised by off spinner Nayeem’s ball in the next over and walked off for 87.
The hosts then filtered down to 471-9 when three rapid wickets for 10 runs slowed the game, later Nayeem’s spell of Asitha Fernando shut down the innings. Fourth innings could be tricky for the hosts even with a much smaller score from Sri Lankan side, given with hosting spinners in form.
