The official governing body of SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) who initially scheduled the matches for 2025 has now deferred that to 2026. They have cited the need for better preparation and logistical clarity, because the SAFF prepared to hold the matches both in home and away venues. But the recent unrest incidents, and the challenges in scheduling the venues has made them reconsider their decision.
“With this stern belief, the SAFF had decided to stage the prestigious SAFF Championship in a home or away format this year. Preparations had been made accordingly. However, SAFF, our Member Associations and SportFive felt that more arrangements needed to be in place to deliver the competition in a smooth manner. Therefore, we have come to a decision to postpone the SAFF Championship to 2026 so that all our stakeholders and member associations have adequate time to organize the championship in a grand manner,” – SAFF Press Release
The revised dates and venues for the 15th edition will be revealed later and the members who will participate in the SAFF are Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This reschedule of upcoming fixtures ensures it will be a well-organized tournament with competitive opportunities for the regional football star.
