As a student, it was a nightmare to open a bank account in Bangladesh, especially without a job or a fixed-income certificate. The good news is you don’t need one. Several leading banks in Bangladesh now offer dedicated student accounts with no maintenance fees, no minimum balance requirements and a simplified document checklist that gels perfectly with student life.

Why Student Accounts Don’t Need an Income Certificate

Bangladesh Bank has long been advocating for the financial inclusion of students through its school and youth banking policies. The guidelines permit banks to open accounts for students based on their educational enrollment status, not income proof. So your student ID does all the heavy lifting instead of needing a salary certificate or an employer letter.

Which Banks Offer Student Accounts With No Fees

In Bangladesh, several banks provide student banking services with no maintenance charges:

No maintenance charges, Multicurrency debit card, and interest on any balance. BRAC Bank Agami is a student account that is designed to meet the financial needs of students. Valid till the age of 26.

Trust Bank Youth Account is targeted at students between the ages of 18 and 30 years. It has no account maintenance charge, a free first cheque book and no annual or renewal charge on the debit card.

Prime Bank Youth Account is open to all resident Bangladeshi students between 18 and 25 years of age, and the income-related requirements are also waived.

The Standard Chartered School Banking Account has a zero account maintenance fee and a zero minimum balance requirement. However, it is targeted at students below 18 years of age.

    Documents You Really Need

Ignore the income certificate. This is what the majority of banks require:

Identification of the applicant and nominee (NID, passport or birth certificate), a recent utility bill (for address proof) and a valid student ID or certification from your school, college or university

Two passport-size photographs of the student and the guardian, the guardian’s photo ID, and a utility bill in the guardian’s name, E-TIN of the guardian, if available (usually optional)

How to Apply – Step by Step

Go to your favourite bank’s nearest branch, or apply through their website online

Bring your student ID, NID or birth certificate, two passport-size photos and your guardian’s NID and utility bill

Fill in the account opening form. Select the student or youth savings account as your application type.

Submit documents, get your account number and debit card in a few working days

A Useful Note for College Students

If you are receiving bKash transfers from family or getting income from freelancing, a bank account gives you a layer of financial credibility you will need later — for scholarship disbursements, government stipends or applying for student loans. For instance, the Agami account of BRAC Bank also offers a personal education loan facility for students seeking higher studies.

Banking in Bangladesh has never been easier for students to get started with. No salary slip, no income proof – just your student ID and a desire to take the first step towards financial independence.

    Summary

No income certificate? No problem. Bangladesh’s top banks offer zero-fee student accounts requiring only your student ID, NID or birth certificate, and a guardian’s documents. Here’s how to open one easily in 2025.
