9-to-5 jobs are no longer considered a financial plan for Gen Z in Bangladesh. Thanks to a booming digital economy and rising living costs, Bangladesh’s youth are building second streams of income faster than any generation before them. More than 6,50,000 freelancers in Bangladesh earn more than $500 million in foreign exchange every year from digital services, and a large chunk of them are under 25. These are the 10 best side hustles that are driving that change.

1. Freelance Work on Fiverr & Upwork

It is still the largest single source of income for Bangladeshi youth outside of formal jobs. In 2025, an average freelancer in Bangladesh earned $500 to $700 a month — many multiples of the country’s average entry-level corporate salary of $100 to $115 a month. The most sought after are web development, graphic design & UI/UX, digital marketing & SEO, AI & machine learning and video editing with hourly rates ranging from $10 to $100 depending on speciality. Fiverr is the newbie. Upwork is for those who have experience. Payoneer makes payments to Nagad and bKash.

2. YouTube & Facebook Content Development

Young Bangladeshis have found YouTube and Facebook to be a potent income engine, with earning possibilities via ad monetisation and brand sponsorship deals. Facebook paid out nearly $3bn to creators through its monetisation programmes in 2025, up 35% year-on-year. The fastest audience growth is among creators making niche content in Bangla, such as cooking, travel, tech reviews, and Islamic content.

3. TikTok Content and Brand Collaborations

For young people in Bangladesh, TikTok is a creative playground, with rural creators showcasing everything from traditional cooking to local craftsmanship to millions of viewers. Brand partnerships and gifting during live streams are now real income streams for creators with as few as 10,000 followers. Bangladesh has one of the top 10 volumes of active users on TikTok in the world, and as a result, brand visibility in this market is becoming increasingly attractive to sponsors.

4. Graphic Designing & UI/UX Services

Graphic design is the most popular category. 60% of Bangladeshi freelancers on Fiverr are working in the creative and multimedia fields. The entry barrier is now lower, with easy access to tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator and Figma. Gen Z designers are producing logos, social media post packages and app UI work for clients worldwide.

5. Motion graphics & video editing

Short-form video means there’s a huge demand for fast, talented editors. Bangladeshi editors are regularly getting work from YouTubers, businesses and content agencies in the US, UK and the Middle East, and video editing and motion graphics jobs on global platforms pay between $20 to $65 per hour. CapCut and DaVinci Resolve allow for professional-level editing on mid-range laptops.

6. Online tutoring and teaching skills

The fees of the coaching centres are skyrocketing, and the demand for digital learning is on the rise, making tutoring a steady side income. SSC and HSC subjects are being tutored by Gen Z graduates on Zoom and Google Meet. More advanced tutors are creating courses in Bangla on subjects like web development, digital marketing and spoken English and selling them in Facebook groups and local platforms.

7. Facebook Commerce & Drop Shopping

In Bangladesh, young people are sourcing products – clothes, accessories, home goods – and selling them through Facebook Shops and Instagram, with no in-hand inventory. While on the other side, a few of the driven sellers are testing Amazon FBA from Bangladesh and creating foreign entities and scaling stores from $500 to hundreds of thousands in sales as the access to cross-border e-commerce is improving.

8. Marketing Alliances

Promote products and earn commissions from affiliate links on Facebook, YouTube and blogs without having to spend any money. Daraz’s affiliate program has been a hit with Bangladeshi Gen Z creators, who embed referral links to products in their reviews. The commissions are small per click, but do scale with the size of your audience.

9. Digital and Print on Demand Items

Gen Z artists are increasingly selling t-shirts, phone cases, mugs and digital templates via Redbubble, Merch by Amazon or local print shops. Upload a design. Sales are not active. This makes it attractive to students who can’t spend fixed hours earning.

10. Virtual assistants

Businesses everywhere are seeking people to do bookkeeping, admin support and customer service as a side hustle. Virtual assistance is one of the easiest ways for beginners to earn dollars. No technical skills required, just good English communication skills and basic organisational skills. Today, a lot of Gen Z VAs from Bangladesh work for small international businesses, managing their inboxes, calendars and social media, and make anywhere between $300 and $600 a month.

In summary

Bangladesh is home to 40 million internet users under the age of 30, on the cusp of a creator economy and digital gig revolution. In 2026, it is not just the platforms that are popular; it is the mindset. Gen Z in Bangladesh is increasingly seeing a side hustle not as a backup plan, but as an intentional, parallel income stream built alongside – and sometimes larger than – their main career.
