Model and actress Snigdha Chowdhury, better known as Israt Jahan, has filed a police complaint against Ashiyan Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan for assault, attempted murder and torture following a meeting to finalise a brand ambassador deal.
What the Complaint Says
The case statement lodged with Khilkhet Police Station said Emon signed a contract on July 24 with Snigdha for Tk 16 lakh to make her the brand ambassador of Ashiyan Group. That evening she went with her mother to meet Bhuiyan at an office of Ashiyan Medical College in Dhaka’s 300 Feet area. Snigdha says her mother left and Bhuiyan confused her for another woman, accusing her of financial fraud. He then beat her for nearly two hours before she escaped by jumping from a first-floor balcony around 11:30 pm.
Police Reaction and Medical Care
Snigdha was treated at Kurmitola General Hospital, where she said she remained unconscious for a day. Officer In Charge, Police Station Khilkhet, Sohrab Al Hossain, said the case has been filed, and investigators are following up on the matter and collecting medical records.
Company Denies Charges
The claims have been dismissed by Ashiyan Group as fabricated and motivated. General Manager for Media and Communications Syed Shafiqul Islam said in a written statement that he was confident that an impartial investigation would establish the facts and that the matter is now sub judice.

Chairman Resigns, Is Released
Bhuiyan surrendered before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam on Monday and was released on bail on a Tk 50,000 bond until submission of the medical report, prosecution officials said.
“I was hesitant to go for legal action initially because I was afraid of damaging my personal reputation, but eventually I decided to seek justice,” said Snigdha, talking to reporters at her Banani residence. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
