Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit Saudi Arabia to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues, according to a report from the Dhaka Tribune. The invitation was delivered in person during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka.

How the Invitation Was Delivered

Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Zafer H bin Abiyah handed over the invitation letter to Tarique Rahman during the meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat on Monday, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin said. According to reports, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir were also present.

In the letter, the Crown Prince expressed Saudi Arabia’s keenness to further strengthen bilateral relations with Bangladesh in areas of mutual interest, with a view to fulfilling the aspirations of the two countries and their brotherly peoples. He also conveyed his wishes for Tarique Rahman’s continued health and happiness and for the progress and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh.

Part of a Wider Diplomatic Push

This is not the first such gesture from Riyadh this year. Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir had earlier said the Crown Prince was interested in visiting Bangladesh and would undertake the visit at a mutually convenient time. Officials have pointed to Rahman’s outreach across the Middle East through special envoys as one reason behind the warming ties with Riyadh.

The date and schedule for Rahman’s Saudi trip will be worked out later. According to earlier reporting, the date and schedule of the visit will be determined at a mutually convenient time through diplomatic channels.

Coming Amid India Visit Talks

The Saudi invitation lands at a notable moment, as Dhaka is also weighing a possible visit by Rahman to India. Reports note that the Saudi invitation comes amid discussions over a possible visit by Tarique to India, either to attend an outreach session of a summit or on a bilateral visit, though officials have said the India trip details are not yet finalised. Since taking office, Rahman has already made state visits to Malaysia and China, and a Saudi trip would mark another step in his early foreign policy outreach.

With the invitation now formally delivered, attention turns to when Rahman’s Saudi Arabia visit will actually take place. The trip is expected to touch on trade, investment, and strategic cooperation between the two countries. Coming alongside the unresolved questions over an India visit, the Saudi invitation also signals how Dhaka’s new government is trying to balance ties with multiple partners in its first year in office.

Summary: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit the kingdom, with the invitation delivered through the Saudi ambassador in Dhaka, as talks over a separate India trip continue.
