BRTA Vehicle Registration

In the olden days, if you wanted to check the registration of your vehicle, you had to go to the nearest BRTA office and stand in a long queue. That’s no longer necessary. The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority has now opened the door to a variety of options for checking registration status from home, whether you are looking to verify the details of your own vehicle, check a car before buying it or just want to make sure your paperwork is in order.

Checking Registration Status on BRTA Website

The best way is to visit the official BRTA portal www.brta.gov.bd. The site has a registration check section where owners can enter their vehicle details and see the current registration status, including whether it is valid or not. The portal is also linked to the wider BRTA Service Portal, which deals with related matters like driving licence applications, tax token payments and fitness certificates, so once they log in, most vehicle-related checks can be done from a single dashboard.

Check status via SMS

The BRTA also has an SMS-based check for those who don’t have easy internet access. The vehicle’s Digital Registration Certificate details are provided by sending a message in the format NP space DRC to the shortcode 26969. It’s particularly useful in low connectivity areas as it can be used on any basic phone, without the need for an app or data connection.

How to Use the BRTA DNP and DRC Checker App?

There is also an official mobile app of BRTA called BRTA DNP & DRC Checker on the Google Play Store. The app enables vehicle owners to track the status of their Digital Number Plate and Digital Registration Certificate, download the Electronic Registration Certificate once issued, and verify the authenticity of the same using an inbuilt QR Code Scanner. If you’ve just bought a new vehicle and are waiting for your number plate or registration certificate, this app is usually the quickest way to check on the progress.

What You’ll Need

In either case, the process will be speeded up if you have the vehicle’s registration number or chassis number. For services requiring login to the BRTA Service Portal, owners will also need their National ID number and a registered mobile number for account verification through OTP.

Why This Matters

Beyond convenience, there are real benefits to keeping registration details up to date and easily verifiable. Buyers can check the registration status of a used vehicle before purchasing; owners can be notified of upcoming renewal dates before they expire; and the digital trail reduces the likelihood of the types of paperwork disputes that used to occur when everything was done manually. With the BRTA’s increasing automation of its services, vehicle status can increasingly be checked in minutes without ever setting foot in an office.

Summary: Bangladesh Road Transport Authority now offers three ways to check a vehicle’s registration status without visiting an office: the BRTA Service Portal website, an SMS shortcode, and the official BRTA DNP & DRC Checker mobile app.
