Your Smart NID Card is the most important identification for you in Bangladesh. A spelling mistake in your name, or a wrong date of birth, could prevent you from opening a bank account, applying for a passport or getting a government job. The correction process is a simple and entirely online process; all you require is an account on the NID portal, supporting documents and a small fee.
Documents You Will Require
The papers needed depend on your type of correction.
For your own name change: Submit an attested copy of your SSC certificate, Magistrate Court affidavit and Newspaper Advertisement regarding the name change.
Correcting Date of Birth: For SSC-passed applicants, the attested SSC certificate should be submitted. Below SSC Submit your Birth Certificate, Service Book, Driving Licence or Passport. If you have an SSC qualification, then the SSC certificate is always preferred.
For correction of the name of the parent: Upload SSC certificate, birth certificate & attested copy of the parent’s NID card. All the documents should be properly attested.
Step-wise Online Process
Step 1: Portal Registration. Go to services.nidw.gov.bd. Enter your NID Number, Date of Birth and fill in the captcha. Verify your mobile number with OTP, then complete face verification through the NID Wallet App.
Step 2: Correct Your Info Click on the “Profile” tab, click on “Edit”, correct your name or date of birth, review carefully and click on “Next” to submit for revalidation.
Step 3: Pay the Fee. For name or date of birth correction, the fee is Tk 230 (Tk 200 base + Tk 30 VAT) for the first time, Tk 345 for the second, and Tk 575 for every next attempt. bKash Payment: Go to ‘Pay Bills’ > ‘NID Service’ in Government Fees, enter NID number and confirm with the PIN. Rocket and OK Wallet are also accepted.
Step 4: Upload your documents. Attach the attested supporting documents with the application. Please make sure all scans are clear and complete before submitting. Blurry uploads are the most common reason for rejection.
Step 5: Download Your Updated Card. Once it gets approved, you will get an SMS to your registered number. Log in to the portal again, download your corrected NID card and print and laminate it to use.
