The government has set aside 289 tonnes of rice for 489 Durga Puja mandaps in Rajshahi district this year. The rice has already reached the district and will be handed out ahead of the festival.
How the Rice Will Be Distributed
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Abdul Hai Sarkar said each mandap will receive 600 kg of rice. Of the 489 mandaps, 85 are in Rajshahi city, and 404 are spread across nine upazilas. The Upazila Nirbahi Officers will distribute the rice to mandap authorities within a week.
More Mandaps Than Last Year
According to the District Relief Office, the number of mandaps has risen by 17, up from 472 last year.

Festival Preparations
Idol makers are busy adding the final touches to Durga idols. The five-day festival will start with Shasthi Puja on October 16 and end with idol immersion on October 21.

Security Measures
District and metropolitan administrations have taken steps to ensure a peaceful celebration. Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Foijul Kabir said enough uniformed and plainclothes police will be deployed at 109 mandaps in the metropolitan area. Round-the-clock surveillance is also being maintained at idol-making sites.
